Weekends are for cooking

During the week, we all have things to attend to. School, work, kids, you know the rest, and rarely does it include a old fashioned home cooked meal. But on the weekends you can take your time, relax and enjoy a meal for a change.

When I was a kid, my father and I would anxiously await the PBS Saturday line up of cooking shows. Now, I must tell you this was long before Food Network,
Sesame Tofu with Baby Bok Choy

Anthony Bourdain, and Gordon Ramsey. The line up consisted of Justin Wilson, Jeff Smith and the goddess of the kitchen, Julia Child. With pen and paper in hand I would scribble down notes, and watch attentively, absorbing every word and gesture. When the final credits would role, my father and I would hop off the couch, throw open the cabinets and refrigerator hoping we could somehow recreate the fabulous dishes we had seen. Did it always work? The honest answer...no. But we had fun trying.

What I want to share with you is that weekend adventure into the culinary word. Wonderful recipes which require a bit more time, a few more ingredients and maybe even some you've never heard or even seen before. To make it more interesting, why not go vegan. I know what you're thinking...its vegan, its pasta, its salad and weird gluten laden hybrids mocked up to look like meat. No, no, no...we are going to think outside the box, and leave the "Franken-meats" on the shelf and in the fridge. I'll provide video demo links, and beautiful photographs so you can see the final product.

We will explore the local vegan restaurant and foodie scene and try a bite or two. So...let's meet here every Friday...pencils at the ready, and open mind and an empty stomach...

Happy Cooking!!
